# Onboarding & quick-action defaults

> Pick the models that power your quick actions — and change them later

The first time you open Pixio you're walked through a short setup that picks **which AI model runs when you use each quick action**. It's the only setting that changes how the rest of the app behaves, which is why it comes first.

## The wizard

Four steps, all skippable:

| Step           | What it does                                         |
| -------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Welcome**    | Explains what you're choosing                        |
| **Essentials** | A default model for each core quick action           |
| **Optional**   | Fine-tune the rest, or keep the recommended defaults |
| **Review**     | Confirm your choices                                 |

You can **skip this step**, **use default** on any single item, or **skip onboarding** entirely. Skipping isn't a penalty — Pixio ships sensible recommended defaults, and nothing is locked in.

## What a quick-action default actually controls

[Chained actions](/generate#chained-actions) — **Create Video**, **Upscale**, **Remove BG**, **Add Lipsync**, **Create 3D Model** and the rest — run a model without asking you which one. The default you set here is the model each of those uses.

That's the practical payoff: one click does the thing with *your* preferred model instead of a generic one.

## Changing them later

**Settings → Quick-action defaults** — "Choose which AI model runs when you use each quick action on the generate page."

Worth revisiting when:

* You've found a model you prefer for a specific job
* A new model lands that's better or cheaper than your current pick
* Your plan changed and better models became available
* A default is costing more than you want per click

  Check your defaults after upgrading a plan. Onboarding picks from what your plan could reach at the time — an upgrade doesn't retroactively improve your defaults.

## Costs

A quick action costs the same as running that model in [Generate](/generate). The default doesn't change the price — it changes which price you pay per click. If a chained action feels expensive, the default behind it is the thing to change.
