# Troubleshooting

> Fix common API key, credit, Duet, stencil, photo, layer, and voice problems.

Start by updating to the newest Pixio Canvas build, confirming that the iPad is online, and reading the message shown by the companion. User-facing errors appear in the studio; more technical diagnostics are available in Settings.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="My API key is not working" icon="key">
    Copy the complete key from your own Pixio account, remove leading or trailing spaces, and save it again under **Settings → Companion Key**. Confirm the key is active and belongs to an account with available credits. Never send the key to support.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="AI Processing is required" icon="shield">
    Open **Settings → AI Processing**, review what will be sent and where, then choose **Allow AI Processing** if you want to use the AI feature. Choosing **Not Now** intentionally keeps cloud features disabled while local tools remain available.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Spark, Animate, or Generate Stencil is dimmed" icon="moon">
    Quiet turns AI tools off. Switch to **Whisper** or **Duet**, then confirm a key, permission, internet connection, and available credits are present.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Duet does not respond after I draw" icon="wand-magic-sparkles">
    Confirm **Duet** is selected, finish the current stroke, and pause for the selected **Flowing** or **Patient** rhythm. Also check AI-processing permission, the connected key, network access, credits, and the companion message. Use Whisper and tap Spark if you want to test a manual turn. If **Settings → Manual volleys only** is enabled, automatic Duet turns stay off until you disable it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A generation is taking a long time" icon="clock">
    Pixio Canvas sends one generation at a time. Model queues and processing time vary. Keep the app open while the request is active. If it fails, review the companion message, check your credits and connection, then retry once rather than repeatedly starting new work.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I cannot draw over a companion result" icon="layer-group">
    Open **Layers** and select the top drawing layer, or tap **Add → Drawing Layer** and move it above the result. Companion images and your ink are separate layers. Ink added while Duet is processing should remain above the returned result.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Undo brought back old strokes" icon="rotate-left">
    Update to the latest build. Undo and Redo should follow edit order, and drawing after Undo should clear the abandoned redo branch. If the issue continues, note the exact sequence of actions and send it to support without private artwork or keys.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I want to clear everything" icon="trash">
    Tap the red trash button below Undo and Redo, or open **… → Clear Canvas**, then confirm. To preserve the rest of the canvas, delete only the unwanted layer instead.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Photo-to-Stencil is unclear or too detailed" icon="image">
    Choose a well-lit image with one distinct subject and a simple background. Try **Basic** for essential outlines and **Advanced** for more details. Photo-to-Stencil runs locally and does not need credits.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Generate Stencil fails" icon="shapes">
    Generate Stencil is different from Photo-to-Stencil. It requires Whisper or Duet, AI permission, a connected key, internet, and credits. Use a concrete subject such as “friendly fish, side view” and retry after checking the companion message.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The microphone is unavailable" icon="microphone-slash">
    Allow Microphone and Speech Recognition in iPad Settings. Voice intent also requires on-device recognition for the current language. If that is unavailable, type the intent; Pixio Canvas does not fall back to server-side dictation.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="TestFlight shows my old key or drawings" icon="flask">
    TestFlight uses the same iPad Keychain and local app storage across updates. A previously saved key or local canvas can therefore remain on that device. It is not packaged into the build and other testers do not receive it. Remove the key in Settings and delete local canvases from Library when you want a clean workspace.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Pixio Library shows unexpected assets" icon="cloud">
    Pixio Library is scoped to the connected API-key account. It may show earlier uploads and generations made with that same account. Connect a different personal key or manage the assets through the Pixio service; local canvases are separate.
